Well....this is a bit of an experiment at this stage
After having done a few trips overseas recently my partner and I have realised just what it is like to be dumped in a big city with no idea what, where, when or how
OK, so Auckland is not that big comparitively but it is probably still a bit confusing to the new arrival
Like most airports ours is miles from anywhere, public transport is confusing (even to the drivers) and the taxis are a rip-off ($40.00 flag-fall before you even get out of the airport)
It would cost us NZ$16 to taxi to the airport but NZ$56 to come back!
There are lots of motels a few kilometres from the airport but no way of getting there exept by taxi.
Which ones are best? Who knows?. They will all claim to be TS friendly because they are all chasing the dollar.
Then when you do find one you will discover that they are still miles from Auckland city or anywhere of much use.
There is a shuttle service (if you can find it) directly to Auckland City (about 20km) but then you need to have a hotel booked, especially if you are arriving at night as the whole place closes down when it gets dark........
So......as we live only about 5km from the airport we thought about offering a pickup and homestay service for the first night just so a girl can get her bearings and figure out where she is.
Our house is old but comfy and private with the usual ammenties like phone, power, running water , spa, etc.
We are both friendly and easy going and my partner Shelina is not a bad cook.
We are located in Mangere Bridge which is a friendly harbourside village about 15 km from Auckland CBD
What we have in mind is to pick you up from the airport, somewhere to stay the night, breakfast etc and a bit of local knowlege thrown in.
Price? Well...... really hard one this, we have been putting people up for free but as we are both poor folks we need to charge something.
Considering the Taxi fare of aprox NZ$56.00, the motels charge around NZ$100 with no food then something like NZ$80 for pickup and stay single NZ$100 dble must sound reasonable. Longer stays are negotiable.
