TRANSEXUAL:
Jacquie Grant arrives at the High Court in Wellington.
The significance of what is believed to be the first time a
transsexual has sat as a member of a High Court bench is being downplayed by
the Hokitika woman who has the honour.
"What's the
difference?" Jacquie Grant said when she arrived at the High Court at
Wellington yesterday.
Dubbed the "tranny
granny", Grant was one of two Human Rights Review Tribunal members sitting
with Justice Denis Clifford on an appeal against a tribunal ruling.
Grant is a
businesswoman and former local body politician who was made a member of the New
Zealand Order of Merit in 1998 for her services to the community. – Dominion
