Auckland-based LGBT phone counselling service OUTline's new social event
will be an opportunity to learn more about what the local LGBT community has to
offer, say organisers.
"One of the
main topics that comes up when people call OUTline is how to meet people, so I
figured that this would be a good opportunity for them to do so," says
OUTline volunteer Daniel Spragg.
The new 'Outer
Space' evening is for people who are curious about the LGBT community, or those
who have come out as gay or are questioning their sexuality. "They can
come and see what is on offer for them in the LGBT community, and it's also an
opportunity to meet, mix and mingle with other gay people in a safe
space," explains Spragg.
"I will be
inviting various people in the community who run community events and places to
attend and have an opportunity to display their groups, bars and events
information," he says. There will also be plenty of brochures, newspapers
and magazines provided to look at and take away.
"It will
also be a good opportunity to show off OUTline's newly renovated office,"
says Spragg.
As OUTline is a
completely confidential service, people don't have to RSVP with their names.
"Although it would be helpful for catering purposes if they could, even if
it is done so anonymously."
Entry is by gold
coin donation, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
