Cartier trust breaks free from Wigs!
The Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust has officially
severed links to downtown Auckland’s Wigs on the Waterfront event amidst months
of speculation.
Cartier trustee Karen Ritchie held at meeting at Family Bar to announce the
official news to Auckland’s most famous drag queens.
“We wanted to reassure the community as to why we pulled out, and to do it from
the lawyers and trustees rather than from it circulating around the community”
says Ritchie. “We are still involved with Wgarama and Caluzzi, and we will be
doing another annual event, we just need to confirm where and when.”
Ritchie said at the meeting that lack of good management forced the trust to
pull away from the partnership.
The Cartier Trust is looking to organise a new event to raise funds, and would
love to hear from the community.
“If anyone in the community has any ideas, we’d love to hear them!” says
Ritchie.
If you have ideas for a new fundraising scheme to raise funds for the trust,
contact Cartier Trust at cartiertrust@xtra.co.nz.
Despite the less than amicable parting, Ritchie remains positive about the
changes and the future of the trust.
“It’s time to move on,” she says.
Wigs on the Waterfront is set to return to Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour on Sunday
16 March.
To support the Cortier Trust,
make sure you head to Family on Thursday 24 April for Wigarama, which will help
raise funds for the trust
