File on bogus psychiatrist forwarded to the National Police HQ Crime Unit after US law enforcers arrest her

16 January 2002

The file on bogus psychiatrist Lynda Astor has been forwarded to the National Police Headquarters Crime Unit.

Police in the United States have the alleged transsexual in custody on immigration charges.

Dr Astor was employed by Nelson-Marlborough Mental Health Services, but disappeared after it was revealed she didn't hold qualifications for the job.

Nelson Detective Inspector John Winter says his recommendations have been forwarded to the crime unit.

He's refusing to comment on them.

He says input is also being sought from Wellington police where the bogus doctor once worked.
