Fa’afafine boxing event planned for
AKL
An Auckland-based event management company has announced the inclusion of
transgender Samoans in its upcoming corporate class boxing schedule for
August.
‘Event Polynesia’ says it will bring the fa’afafine fight night to Auckland,
with the tagline: ‘4 Warrior Princesses – 3 Matches – 1 Dream to be the Last
Fa’afafine Standing Champion!’
“There’s boxing genes in all Samoans, like most Pacific people,” says
Managing Director Teleiai Su’a Edwin Puni. “This is a second chance for those
that had always wanted to step into the ring but never got to do it.
"We are very delighted with the positive response from the Samoan and
boxing community here in New Zealand,” he continues.
"The tournament is geared to boost interest in boxing by involving the
community, and giving some of our talented fighters a chance in the ring and
not on the streets of South Auckland.”
The event is scheduled for Tuesday 14th August 2007 in Otara Recreation Centre.
Fa’afafine interested in taking part should contact Mrs. Rosa Puni on 027 204
0075. Free training can be given.
