Crossdresser arrested for robberies

A crossdressing Marton man is in custody facing two charges of robbery following incidents in Feilding and Palmerston North.

On June 29 a man made off with between $3000 and $4000 after threatening a cashier at Kiwibank in Goodbehere St, Feilding.

Yesterday a man threatened a cashier at a bank in Ruahine St, Palmerston North, and left with around $800.

On both occasions the man was described as being dressed as a woman.
A short time later police stopped a van on Rangitikei St, Palmerston North, and arrested a 34 year old man.

Police spokesperson Kim Perks said the man would probably appear in court today.
A woman who was in the van at the time the man was arrested was later released without charge.

No one was injured in the robberies.

Ms Perks said the suspect did not wear women's clothing solely for the robberies but "tends to dress as a female in everyday life".
